Don’t take chances with your prized piano. Hire a professional!
All piano movers have horror stories about people who have tried to move their pianos themselves. The following is Bill’s:
Bill was called to a home one day to see if he could repair the family’s antique piano. When he arrived he found the piano in several pieces in front of the family home. It seems they decided that they could save some money by moving the antique upright piano by themselves.
They enlisted all of their friends with muscles to help them move the piano from their home and into their pickup truck. They gouged the walls and door frame trying to get the piano out of their house. They then ripped the veneer off the side of the piano trying to get it into the truck.
Once the piano was in the back of the truck, they rested, had a beer, then started off to their new home.
Unfortunately, they didn’t secure the piano in the truck. (After all, it was too heavy to move.) They turned left at the end of the driveway and the piano listed to the right and fell off the side of the truck. It ruined the side of the truck and totally destroyed the piano.
- Keep in mind that pianos range in weight from about 500 pounds for a spinet to as much a 1500 pounds for a concert grand. You may think that several of your friends can help you move it. The truth is that if they don’t have the proper equipment and the knowledge of where and how to apply leverage the move can become a disaster.
- Two or three professionals with the proper equipment and knowledge should be able to do the job. There will be no damage to your piano and you won’t need to visit your chiropractor. We will be happy to move your piano for you.
